Kenneth Brown Obituary

Kenneth (Kenny) D. Brown, 85, of Industry passed away at 9:33 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
Kenny was born on June 15, 1938, in Schuyler County, Illinois to Arthur and Laura (Derry) Brown. He was the youngest of three children and the only son.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Teresa (Walraven) Brown.
Also surviving are one daughter, Gayla (Rich) Gastler of West Point, Illinois; one son, Warren (Nicole Ryba) Brown of Fredon Township, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Kale and Drew Gastler and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret Heaton and Melba Hollenback.
Kenny graduated from Industry High School in 1956 and served in the US Army from 1961 to 1963 where he earned sharpshooter medals for rifle and carbine. Upon discharge from the Army, he learned the craft of carpentry from his father-in-law and started upon a long career as a master carpenter.  While working as a master carpenter, he built his home in 1967 – a major source of pride and achievement for him.    After retirement from carpentry, Kenny and Teresa created Today’s Primitives, a line of reproduction primitive furniture and pieces that were sold in local stores as close as Peoria, IL and as far away as New York City. From there, he displayed his artistic talents by designing and building wooden barn quilts that are proudly displayed in numerous homes across the country.
Kenny loved hunting, fishing, and trap shooting – especially hunting. Hunting with his friends was a true passion of Kenny’s and a source of endless stories. He was an avid sports fan – especially of the Cubs and Bears - and loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports.
Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Industry Cemetery in Industry with Pastor David Haney officiating.
The family requests that casual clothing be worn to the funeral.
