William "Bill" Setser Obituary

William “Bill” Setser, 91, of Macomb passed away at 11 a.m. Sunday, August 20, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 7, 1932 in Macomb to Edward and Kathryn Birdsell Setser. He married the love of his life, Sharon Grassmyer-Pankey on July 4, 1993 in Macomb. They shared 30 wonderful years of marriage together.
Also surviving are one son, Tony (Pam) Setser of Sainte Genevieve, Missouri; six daughters, Jane (Randy) France of McCordsville, Indiana, Janet Setser of Macomb, Jean Setser of Plantation, Florida, Dawn (Chad) Grainger of Denver, Iowa, Ginger (Stuart) Westen of Mukwonago, Wisconsin and Sherry (Scott) Whitsitt of Spicewood, Texas; twelve grandchildren, Leigh (Justin) Peterson, James Setser, Matt (Taylar) France, Mitch France, Sam (Jessica) Chandler, Grant (Natalie) Grainger, Martee Grainger, Paige Grainger, Breeden Jones, Zoey Westen, Colette Whitsitt and Callan Whitsitt; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Donna Marlowe of Macomb, John (Mary Grace) Setser of Del City, Oklahoma, Sandra (Gary) Fowler of Macomb, Vic Setser of Macomb and Tina (Rick) Welsh of Bartonville, Illinois and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Kathryn Birdsell Setser and siblings Linda Mason and Larry Setser.
Bill was a graduate of Macomb High School and was a gifted athlete in football, basketball and track. He was an  Educator, Coach and Athletic Director for MCUSD #185 for many years. He was a true mentor to many students and staff. He taught a total of 37 years in education. He lived in Rantoul and Macomb.
He was an Air Force veteran serving in the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of the Macomb American Legion, Macomb VFW, Maple Avenue Christian Church and the McDonough County Retired Teacher’s Association.
Bill and Sharon enjoyed spending time in their yard tending to their beautiful roses, watching wildlife and enjoying retirement together. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb with Pastor Donnie Case officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a..m. Friday at the church.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb with full military rites being conducted by the Macomb American Legion and Macomb VFW.
Memorials may be made to Maple Avenue Christian Church, MDH Hospice or MHS Bomber Booster Club.
