Alice Marie Haffner

Alice Marie Haffner, 86, of rural Colchester passed away at 10:58 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the Lamoine Retirement Living Center in Macomb, surrounded by family.  She was born on May 23, 1938 in Hancock County, Illinois to Floyd and Fern Allison Wier. She married Ronald Haffner on August 15, 1954. He survives.
Also surviving are six children, Peg (David) Hainline of Good Hope, Pam (Jim) Wisslead of Sciota, Anita (Larry) Tingley of Galesburg, Annette Ault of Colchester, Rhonda Haffner of Morton and Randy (Natalee) Haffner of Colchester; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren plus one on the way; one sister, Hilda (Dave) Tanner of Petersburg and one brother, Charles (Peg) Wier of Arizona.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Jared Haffner and one son-in-law, Larry Ault.
Alice lived all her life in the rural Colchester/Macomb area where she and her husband, Ronald farmed. She treasured her lifelong roles of mom and farm wife, becoming well-known for cooking and delivering fantastic meals to the “guys in the field”.  She was happiest when busy, whether that was sewing clothes for the family and the girls’ dolls, canning and freezing the produce grown in the family garden, tending to the chickens and eggs, saving abandoned kitties, or taking care of the flowers. Alice truly loved every baby she ever encountered, found relaxation in watching birds (learning to identify many by their song), and especially enjoyed hosting family meals, supporting her kids through life’s journeys, and spending time with the grandkids.  
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb.  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb with Pastor Jim Clayton officiating. Friends and family are invited to a meal at the Macomb American Legion, immediately following the graveside service.
Memorials may be made to Traditions Hospice; the family is grateful for the care of this organization as well as of her many caregivers when still at home and later while at The Lamoine.
