Charles E. John

Charles E. John, 87, of Macomb passed away at 11:05 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on February 23, 1935 in Macomb to Howard and Bessie Friday John. He married Shelba Hensley on September 12, 1953. She passed away on March 27, 2016.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gene John and two sisters, Kathryn Akers and Erma Setser.
Charles is survived by his children, C. Randall (Brenda) John of Macomb, E. Kendall (Elise) John of Springfield and Daniel (Stacy) John of Macomb; eight grandchildren, Heather (Bill) Barnes of Macomb, Brigham (Abbie) John of Liberty, Hallie (Luis) Estrada of Quincy, Nick (Katie) John of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jennifer  (Geoff) Conklin of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Danyel John of Zion, Justine M. John (Joe John  Hamrick) of Bardolph and Claire Rittenhouse of Quincy; sixteen great-grandchildren and one sister, Lucinda John of Macomb.
Charles lived in Macomb all of his life. He worked at Galloway Bakery, at WIU in Enviromental Services and as the care taker of Spring Lake Park from 1970 until his retirement in 1998. He also worked part time at Water Works Car Wash. He was a Marine veteran.
He was a huge Macomb Bomber fan, loved his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events and going on hunting trips.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Pastor A. Lee Unger officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb where full military rites will be conducted by the Macomb American Legion and Macomb VFW.
