Donald (Don) E. McCourt, age 64, of Sciota, Illinois, passed away at 11:25 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2026, at Macomb Post Acute Care Center in Macomb, Illinois following a brief and valiant battle with cancer.
He was born October 25, 1961, in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Ina Marie Oakman and Donald (Ike) Hainline. Don was united in marriage to Catherine (Cathy) Nichols on October 22, 1983, in Macomb.
Don is survived by one son, Shaun McCourt of Macomb, two brothers Tim (Lisa) Hainline of Monmouth, and Kevin McCourt of Blandinsville, sister Mia Dee McCourt of Blandinsville, brother- and sister-in-law Mike and Susie Nichols of Macomb, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, step-father Richard McCourt, and sister Teri Hainline Powell.
Don graduated from Macomb High School in 1980 and served in the Illinois National Guard, Battery B.
Like Cathy, Don was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. He loved to tease Cathy by wearing a St. Louis Cardinals shirt to get a reaction from her. His love for Cathy and Shaun is like none other. They always came first.
In retirement, Don refurbished bicycles to keep his hands busy. He loved to help others and did not hesitate when called.
