Dorothy Thompson Obituary

Dorothy Irene Thompson, 90, of Macomb, formerly of Blandinsville passed away at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021 at The Lamoine Assisted Living Center in Macomb.

She was born on September 27, 1930 in LaHarpe to Emil and Brady Florence Dulaney Burford. She married Lloyd W. Thompson on May 10, 1951 in LaHarpe. They were married 60 years and one day before he passed away on May 11, 2011.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Lloyd Thompson, Jr; one daughter Barbara Ann Thompson; one sister Jean Hitz; her brother, David Burford and her step-mother, Eva Burford.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Beth (Kerry) Gebhardt of Blandinsville, Susan (Jim) Walton of Indianapolis, Indiana, Chuck Thompson of Marietta, Georgia, and Donna (Neal) Ford of Sciota; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Debra DeHaven Foster.

She was a nurse in her early life then worked at King-Seeley Thermos for nearly 20 years. While there she was the secretary for the United Steelworkers of America union, meeting Governor Dan Walker. Her love of crafting served her well as a member of he McDonough District Hospital Auxiliary. After retiring she became the local correspondent for the Daily Dispatch Moline, Illinois newspaper. She belonged to the Blandinsville First Baptist Church until its closure where she served as Deacon and Trustee and then joined the Blandinsville First Christian Church. She was also a member of the Blandinsville Believers Rug Looming Group.

She was affectionately known to many people as Grandma T.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Blandinsville with Reverends Dean Reeverts, Gordon Blankenship and Andy Dressler officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glade City Cemetery in Blandinsville.

Memorials may be made to the Blandinsville-Hire Fire and Rescue Squad or the Blandinsville Library.
