Dr. Charles Lotz Obituary

Dr. Charles (Chuck) Edward Lotz, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dedicated veterinarian, passed away peacefully at his home on October 26th, surrounded by the love of his family after fighting a hard, private 10-year battle.
Chuck is survived by his wife of nearly 36 years, Lynn (Thomas) Lotz; his children, Shawn (Samantha) Lotz of Carrollton, IL, Carter Lotz of Wyandotte, MI, and Blaire (Ryan) Litchfield of Macomb, IL; his two grandchildren, Reid Lotz and Mason Litchfield; and his siblings, Harold (Patti) Lotz of Fredericksburg, TX, C. Jane (Gary) Goldy of Sebring, FL, and M. Jean Pistorius of Blue Mound, IL. And a large two and four-legged extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Born on May 9, 1946, in Decatur, IL, to Norman John and Trenna Lee Lotz, Chuck was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Growing up on the family farm instilled in him a strong work ethic, deep faith, and a love for animals that would carry throughout his life.
Chuck graduated from Macon High School in 1964, where he received the State Beautification Award from the FFA and was voted "Most Likely to Succeed." He attended Western Illinois University from 1964 to 1967 before earning his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in 1971.
He began his veterinary career in Milledgeville, IL, and returned to his roots in Macomb, IL in 1980 where he was a practicing veterinarian and co-owner of Animal Medical Center until his passing. For more than 40 years, he formed lasting connections with his staff, clients, and their pets, who became like friends and family. In 1988, he married Lynn, a partnership grounded in shared family values.
Chuck was a proud and active member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity - Alpha Tau chapter at WIU, where he held dear, life-long friendships and served on the alumni advisory board; he also led significant remodeling efforts for the fraternity house, where a plaque now hangs in his honor. Celebrated as Brother of the Century in 2004 at the Alpha Gamma Rho National Convention, an honor only bestowed upon 718 individuals, Chuck's passion for the brotherhood will live on forever.
As we remember Chuck, we find comfort in knowing that the Rainbow Bridge has gained its eternal veterinarian. His gentle spirit, quiet wit, occasionally stubborn nature, and his legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to his faith, family, and Animal Medical Center will remain in our hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2024 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb with Pastor Kelly Ingersoll officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 29, 2024 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alpha Gamma Rho - Alpha Tau Chapter or Merge at Illinois State University Wesley Foundation. Funds will be used to establish a scholarship in Chuck's memory to support an active Alpha Gamma Rho - Alpha Tau chapter brother who embraces their opportunity to make an impact by living out the values instilled in them through the AGR brotherhood.
