Ferrol L. Cramer (91) of Macomb, Illinois passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, December 16th, 2023.
Ferrol was born in Macomb, Illinois at his Aunt’s home (Nellie Roberts), to Perry and VaLinna (Mecum) Cramer from Blandinsville, Illinois. He attended several country schools and graduated from Media High School.
Ferrol served in the United States Army, 1952-1954. He had basic training in Ft. Knox, Kentucky for six weeks. He was deployed to South Korea where he fought on the front lines and was present for the signing of the Peace Treaty for the Korean War. In Korea he assisted with the building of the fence of the Demilitarization Zone. Upon his return he was stationed in Colorado. Ferrol married Julia A. (Icenogle) Cramer on October 1, 1955 at the Methodist Church of Burlington, Iowa. For 10 years he farmed before employment at Farm King. In 1967 he began working at Western Illinois University, where he later retired in 1994.
He is survived by his wife Julia A. Cramer, two daughters, Lynnette Cramer, Warrenton, Missouri, and Sharon (Shay) Anders, York, South Carolina, four grandchildren, Carissa McNett, Stanley Cramer, Holly Johnson, and Alicia Summers, and seven great-grandchildren, Lexi and Levi Gossage, Griffin and Grayden McNett, Max Cramer, Thaxton and Landon Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Camilla VaLinna Cramer and son, Rodney Eugene Cramer. Also two sisters, Eulalia (Tony) McCann, Pearl (Clarence) Reuss, two brothers, Wayne L. (Faun) Cramer, and Dallas (Audrey) Cramer and several nieces and nephews.
Ferrol was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb, SUAA of Western Illinois Univeristy, a long time member of the VFW and American Legion.
Ferrol’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and tending to his flowers. For fun he enjoyed 56 years of dining and playing cards with close friends. His greatest joy is his family and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home with Reverend Dr. Scott Grulke officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb with full military rites being conducted by the Macomb VFW and Macomb American Legion. Everyone is invited for a luncheon at VFW following the burial.
