Gaylord M. Hoke

Gaylord Hoke, 93, of Macomb passed away at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Bickford Cottage in Macomb.
He was born on December 4, 1927 in Macomb to Martin D. and Blanche Higbee Hoke. He married Iris Mae “Imy” VanHooser on September 14, 1946. She passed away on September 17, 2008. He then married Connie Teslicka on November 7, 2009. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Martin (Rebecca) Hoke of Merrillville, Indiana and Mark (Susan) Hoke of Macomb; one daughter, Marianne (Michael Joyce) Hoke of Springfield; three step-sons, Tom (Linda) Teslicka of Georgia, Steve (Carla) Teslicka of Macomb and Chris Teslicka of Chicago; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Still of Macomb, Kristin (Shadd) Gordon of Heyworth, Andrew (Alamar) Hoke of Schereville, Indiana and Aaron (Brittany) Hoke of Sterling Heights, Michigan; seven step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Iris Mae “Imy” Hoke and one daughter, Karen Elaine Hoke.
Gaylord was born in Macomb and lived in Bernadotte for 16 years before moving to Macomb in 1943. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked as a crop adjuster for 30 years.
He was a member of the Macomb American Legion, McDonough County Farm Bureau and the Musicians Union. He played in dance bands in his younger years. He was an Army veteran serving from 1946 to 1947.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb with Pastor Chuck Peterson officiating. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Macomb High School Band Boosters.
