Gene "Snuffy" Howe

Gene “Snuffy” Howe, 86, of Good Hope passed away at 4:51 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. 
He was born on July 5, 1935 in McDonough County to Alden and Genevieve Greenleaf Howe. He married Viola Head on July 5, 1957. She passed away on February 17, 1999.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jim Howe and Mike Howe; son-in-law, Robbie Soule; Grandson, Steven Howe and a brother, Delano Howe.
He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Soule of Blandinsville; a son, Russell (Mary Lou) Howe of Good Hope; daughter-in-law, Felicia Howe; a brother, Wendell (Dottie) Howe; 5 grandchildren, Terence and Heather Soule of Blandinsville, John Howe of Good Hope, Austin Howe of Avon and Lance Haines of Macomb and 8 great-grandchildren, Braylon Soule, Arianna Soule, Gabriel Howe, Isabella Howe, Camryn Howe, Collin Howe, Graclyn Hamilton and Alivia Haines.
Snuffy has lived all of his life in Good Hope where he was a welder and machinist. He was also a heavy equipment operator. 
He was a member of the Local 649 Operating Engineers Union. He enjoyed all car racing, especially sprint cars.
He owned and raced his own sprint car for many years and also owned several motorcycles.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2022 at Good Hope Cemetery in Good Hope with Reverend A. Lee Unger officiating. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Good Hope Fire and Rescue Squad.
