Jane Orr Toland, 75, of Macomb, IL, passed away at 7:34 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, after a courageous 13-day fight against Covid-19.
She was born March 22, 1946 to Marian Myers Orr and Paul Claude Orr in Anchor, IL. She married Trevor L. Toland on January 19, 1969. He survives.
Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, David Orr. Brother Brian (Ellen) Orr survives.
Jane is survived by three daughters: Jama Kasowicz (John Michel) of San Diego, California; Tara (Todd) Cagnoni, of Rockford, Illinois; and Tristan (Mike) Almazan, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She is also survived by four grandchildren; David Toland Cagnoni, Madeleine Jane Almazan, Linnea Rose Cagnoni, and Alia Letty Almazan.
Jane received her B.S. from Illinois State University and her M.S. from Western Illinois University. She was a teacher of Special Education at Macomb High School for twenty years, where she became chair of the department, retiring in 2007.
Jane was a very supportive coach’s wife and balanced that with her role as a loving mother, and then later as an affectionate Grandmother.
Jane was an active partner in the family ranch, Toland’s River Oak, a premier cattle grazing operation, and participated with Trevor in many events of the Illinois Beef Association and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. She also participated earlier in her life with show draft mules and draft horses.
Jane was an active member of the Good Hope United Methodist Church, and previously the Jerusalem United Methodist Church for many years. She served the church in several capacities, especially with the United Methodist Women and the Good Hope Church Choir.
For many years, Jane shared her artistic ability with others through her creations of mosaic art and her mosaic art class, conducted in the basement of her home.
Jane took great pride in and was an avid gardener and a wonderful cook, highlighting several landscaping features at her home and pleasing family and guests with her delicious dishes and desserts. She was also a talented and hard-working seamstress and creative homemaker.
A private service for immediate family only will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021, Rev. Imelda Raymos will officiate. A celebration of life service will take place at the Good Hope United Methodist Church during March 2022.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Macomb Art Center or the Good Hope United Methodist Church.
