Jeanette Hannum Obituary

Jeanette E. Hannum, age 100, died December 30, 2020, at Lititz, Pennsylvania. She was born on October 24, 1920, in Littleton Township, the daughter of John and Mae Burnham Caldwell. She married John H. Hannum on June 6, 1948, at her home in Schuyler County.

She is survived by her three children: one daughter, Shirley (Bradford) Wagner of Lititz, Pennsylvania; two sons: David (Cindy) Hannum of Pasco, Washington, and Richard (Sharon) Hannum of Brea, California; 11 grandchildren: Corrine (Benjamin) Brannaka, Kimberly (Alex) Bauer, Jessica (Nick) Weaver, Laura (Fredy) Estrada, John, Holly, Julie, Noelle, Bethany, Michael, Jack Hannum; and six great grandchildren: Andrew, Daniel, Katelyn and Olivia Bauer, Lucas and Micah Weaver.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband on November 3, 1977; her parents, two brothers, Meredith and Marvin (Emma Lee) Caldwell and one sister, Thelma (Russell) Erickson.

She lived her early life in Schuyler County and attended grade school at Union Grove, Schuyler Country. She graduated from Industry High School and received a Bachelors Degree in Business Education from Western Illinois State Teachers College in 1942.

While attending college, she worked for two professors in the Business Department on NYA, receiving 30 cents per hour. During that time, she typed a complete manuscript, in triplicate, of a business education textbook that Dr. Clyde Beighey of WISTC wrote. This typing was done on a manual Royal typewriter. She typed the first revision in 1949.

Jeanette worked at the Ordinance Plant, Burlington, Iowa, during the summers of 1941 and 1942, and worked as a secretary at Camp Ellis in the Cooks and Mess Sergeant School from June 1943 until September 1945 when the camp was being closed.

Jeanette taught school at Danforth High School, Gladstone High School and then in 1968 she taught at Industry High School until 1989.

She accepted Christ as her savior and became a member of the First Baptist Church, Littleton, Illinois in February 1929. She was treasurer of the church for 20 years, taught Sunday School classes and was pianist and organist for 50 years. She taught in VBS and assisted in other areas where help was needed in the church.

Friends may call at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2021. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at Industry Cemetery with Pastor Sam Stringer officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Littleton Baptist Church.
