John Leonard Obituary

John Ray Leonard, 72, of Macomb passed away at 2:35 a.m. Sunday, August 14, 2022 at home.
He was born on August 17, 1949 in Macomb to Ray and Dora Leonard.
He is survived by his mother, Dora of Macomb; his best friend and partner Marcia Lefante of Macomb; two sons, John (Glenda) Leonard of Ireland and Aaron Leonard of Kansas; four grandchildren; one brother, James (Ruth) Leonard of Macomb; and two sisters, Alice (Mike) Sokolinski of Morris and Sally (Mark) Miller of Gilbert, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray; three uncles and one aunt.
John had  lived in Macomb and Illinois most of his life, except for the 20 years he lived in Utah . He attended the Victory Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, gun smithing, gardening, wine making and doing carpentry work. He  loved to travel, played several musical instruments, and enjoyed music in general. John was a Past Commander of the Macomb American Legion and served on the honor guard, a hospice volunteer while he was in Utah, and was co-chair of the Flags of Love in Macomb.
He was an Army veteran serving from 1969 to 1972.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Pastor Jim Eddy officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb with full military rites being conducted by the Macomb American Legion and Macomb VFW.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Macomb American Legion or Macomb VFW.
