Keith Walters, 49, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on September 6, 2021 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery after a long battle with Crohn’s Disease.
Keith was born on November 22, 1971 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Ken and Viola Reedy Walters.
Keith is survived by his parents; a brother, Nathan (Sarah) Walters-Gibb with children, Callum and Lillian Walters-Gibb, Dunkirk, Maryland; niece, Alison (Chris) Holmes, Davenport, Iowa and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Glade and MaryLee Walters and Earl and Margaret Reedy; uncle and aunt, Donnie and Cheryl Launer, and cousin, Lonnie Launer.
Keith grew up in Hermon, Illinois and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1989. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Hamilton Technical College, Davenport, Iowa in 1995.
After graduation, Keith worked in camera repair as a service technician, followed by ten years employment for Caterpillar, Peoria, Illinois in Engineering Services. He then moved to Clarksville, Tennessee and was employed by Trane as a product designer.
Keith enjoyed model rocketry at an early age and was also interested in the space program. In 2007, he moved to Huntsville, Alabama, nicknamed Rocket City, and was a mechanical design engineer for NASA. He worked on the Ares 1 rocket that was going to replace the space shuttles taking astronauts to the International Space Station. Following that, he worked as a structural and payload engineer at Boeing. Keith the moved to Montgomery, Alabama and was employed by Kelly Aerospace for six years as a design engineer. He was working at Steris Medical, Montgomery, in the Engineering Department at the time of his passing.
Keith enjoyed photography. Also, he was a huge Star Wars fan, beginning at age six, when the movie was first released.
Keith never feared embarking on a new adventure. He enjoyed living in the south where the weather was warm.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on October 23, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb, Illinois. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Christian Church in Abingdon, Illinois where he was a member.
