Mary Ellen Clugston, age 100, of Macomb, passed away at 7:45 AM on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Wesley Village in Macomb.
She was born on February 3, 1922 in Industry, Illinois the daughter of Edgar and Ethel Anstine Bedwell. She first married Joseph Gaddis in 1942 he passed away in 1979. She later married Duane Clugston, he passed away on May 27, 2011.
She is survived by a stepdaughter Lynda (William) Webster of Washington D.C., a stepson Scott Clugston of Haines City, Florida and a special great nephew, Sean (Jeralee) Bedwell of Table Grove, Illinois,
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three brothers Bernard, Ivan, and Carl Bedwell, three sisters Veta Priester, Vivian Alexander, and Hannah Marchant.
While living in Hemet, California in the 1940s she works several years as a medical secretary, then moved to Chicago where she was a flight dispatcher at Palwaukee Airport which was owned by her sister, Veta, and her husband. In 1959 she moved to Miami Springs, Florida, and worked for Pan American World Airways for 17 years as a flight crew scheduler. She returned to Hemet, California in 1975 where she was manager of a travel agency. Following her marriage to Duane, she assisted him at the Clugston Funeral Homes until they retired in 1986.
Mary Ellen is a member of the Industry United Methodist Church, a former member of B.P.O.E. Deers,, Macomb Country Club, and was a former member of the Macomb Women’s Club.
Sean and Jeralee would like to thank the wonderful staff and residents of Wesley Village in Macomb for the loving care and support Mary Ellen received over the 11 years that she was a part of their community.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 1 PM at the Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb. Rev. Dr. Scott Grulke will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to Wesley Village.
