Mary E. Sandstrom, 98, of Macomb, formerly of Blandinsville and Sciota passed away at 11:08 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Wesley Village Healthcare Center in Macomb.
She was born on May 13, 1923 in Sciota to Oscar and Lula Reid Hanson. She married Lloyd Sandstrom on August 8, 1954 in Sciota. He passed away January 5, 2018.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Eldon Hanson; one sister, Evelyn Arntzen and one sister, Margaret Hanson in infancy.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews and an AFS student, Bo Stahre of Sweden.
Mary lived all of her life in the Sciota and Blandinsville areas. She was a member of the former Sciota Christian Church where she taught Sunday School and also attended the Blandinsville Christian Church. She was a member of the Illinois Teacher’s Association.
Mary taught two years at the Christian Day School in Orlando, Florida and taught at the Sciota and Blandinsville schools for 30 years before retiring in 1977.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2021 at the Blandinsville Christian Church with Reverends Gordon Blankenship, Andy Dressler and Donnie Case officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2021 at the church. Burial will be in Glade City Cemetery in Blandinsville.
Memorials may be made to the Campus Students for Christ or the Lamoine Christian Service Camp.
