Meredith Allison Taylor, 98, of Macomb passed away at 7 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.
He was born on November 8, 1924 on the family farm in Scotland Township to Frank and Alleyne Allison Taylor. He married Mildred Jones on December 23, 1976. She preceded him in death.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marjorie Clarke; one brother-in-law, Carl Clarke and a nephew, Terry Clarke.
Meredith is survived by two nephews, Gary Clarke of Macomb and Dick and Beckie Clarke of Daphne, Alabama and their families and two great nieces, Tami Clarke of Macomb and Penny and Chad Price of Normal and their families.
Meredith was a graduate of Macomb High School and wwas a good friend of C.T Vivian. He was a World War II veteran serving as a tank crew member under George Patton’s command in Germany, France and Belgium and with help from his mother’s prayers made it home safely.
After returning home he resumed farming with his father, Frank. Meredith had an interest in flying and after discharge obtained his pilot’s license and for a number of years kept his plane in a specially built hanger on the farm.
He was a lifetime member of the Macomb VFW and a 68 year member of the Macomb American Legion. He was a wealth of family history which will be greatly missed.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Grave side services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Camp Creek Cemetery south of Macomb. There will be no visitation. Full military rites will be accorded by the Macomb American Legion and Macomb VFW.
