Otis Evis Olds, affectionately known as Big O, was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 20, 1928 to Willis Olds Sr. and Mary Catherine Williamson (Olds). Otis spent the first 8 years of his life in Cleveland, before moving with father and siblings to Mason, TN. In April of 1951, Otis enlisted into the United States Army and completed a tour in Korea during the Korean War before leaving the Army in April of 1953.
Otis came home to Chicago, IL in 1953 after his time served in the Army. He met the love of his life Minnie Ruth in 1954, and they married in 1955. Together Otis and Minnie had 3 children, Kim, Jamal, and Lisa. They remained married until Minnie Ruth was called home in October of 1997. Otis worked for American National Can until he retired in 1984, but in his spare time he was a man of many other talents. Otis liked to DJ, work on cars, and he taught himself how to build things from scratch including patios, sheds, decks, bars, and he even rebuilt one of his trucks. Otis was mostly known for his sense of humor, so if you came around him you were guaranteed to have a good laugh.
Otis took his final rest on the morning of August 7, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willis Sr. and Mary Catherine Williamson (Olds); his wife, Minnie Ruth Olds; three brothers, Willie T. Olds, Spearman Olds, and Richard Olds; and four sisters, Bobbie Jean Wirt, Willette Chapple, Theresa Jackson, and Mary Jackson. He will continue to live on through his siblings: three sisters, Lorine Kitty Simms of Chicago, IL, Ann Boyd (Nate) of Nashville, TN, and Patricia Robinson of Germantown, TN; three brothers, Lawrence Olds and James Olds of Chicago, IL and Wilbert Olds of Memphis, TN; three children, Kim Olds, Jamal Olds (Vicky), and Lisa Olds, all of Macomb, IL; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August12, 2022 at Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ in Macomb.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
