Rebecca "Becky" Jo Endres, 78, of Macomb, Illinois, died on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Macomb Post Acute Care Center in Macomb.
She was born on December 6, 1944, in Macomb, the daughter of Davis and Imogene (Garrison) Webster.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Davis and Imogene Webster of Macomb; and her ex-husband, Gene Endres of Florida.
She is survived by two sons, Doug Endres of Macomb, and Chad (Traci) Endres of Carthage, Illinois; one grandchild, Dalton Endres and Shayna Todd of Carthage; two step grandchildren, Shelby Mutter of Iowa City, Iowa, and Brianna Wright of Fort Madison, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Becky began her work life at Cross Motors in Macomb, learning bookkeeping and eventually working at other automobile dealerships in the area, including Wollbrink Motors in Carthage. She was also a bookkeeper at Midwest Packaging in Fort Madison. Becky spent many years as a substitute teacher at Hancock County schools. She was an early adopter of Birkenstock polyurethane clogs. The blocky shoes earned her the nickname "Mrs. Duck Shoes" from her students.
She worked at the Carthage Public Library before spending many years as a GED adjunct instructor at Carl Sandburg College in Carthage. She finished her work life there teaching an English as a second language class. She loved meeting her students from Mexico and various countries in Central America. She retired in 2010.
Becky was an avid lover of cats and books, especially mysteries. She loved to raise flowers and was a Macomb Beautiful Association Residential Award recipient in 2006 for the flowers and outdoor decor at her home.
