Sandra Kendrick Obituary

Sandra Ann Kendrick, 77, of Quincy passed away on Saturday, January 9 at 8:50 p.m. at her Curtis Creek Retirement home, 823 S. 36th Street.

Born August 5, 1943 in Quincy, IL, Sandra was the daughter of Wayne and Clara Emily (Flesner) White of LaPrairie, IL. She married Lonnie Kendrick of Table Grove, IL on August 29, 1964 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bowen, IL where she was the church organist while still in high school.

Sandra graduated from Augusta High School in 1961 and from Blessing Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. As a Registered Nurse, Sandra was dedicated to helping the sick and handicapped. Her work in the early years of nursing was at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL. Specialty training was completed at Minneapolis, MN hospitals. She and Lonnie resided at their home west of Good Hope, IL for several years before moving to a beautiful farm home several miles north of Good Hope while she was employed as the chief administrator of the Rosewood Care Nursing Home in Galesburg until her retirement in 2007.

Sandra and her husband, Lonnie, now deceased, took great pride in the beautification of their home area. Large flower gardens with a rehabbed western wagon was the trademark of their homestead. They enjoyed having their families for holiday meals and cookouts; both came from families of nine children. Sandra was famous for her holiday custard and often praised by especially her oldest brother, Claire, for making "absolutely perfect custard though never enough". Sandra was also famous for manicuring their lawn with her Kobota mower, a gift from Lonnie which she laughed about but which also gave her great joy as she enjoyed working outdoors.

Sandra took great pride in the accomplishments of her two sons: Doug, a graduate of the University of Illinois and Nathan, a graduate with two degrees from the University of Iowa. Survivors in addition to her sons Doug, Stansbury Park, Utah and Nathan, SanDiego, CA are three grandsons, Tristan of Green Bay, WI; Ian of LaCrosse, WI. and Seth, Fennimore, WI, a daughter-in-law, Dawn, of Fennimore, WI. Also surviving are two brothers, Keith (Bettie) White of Augusta and John (Janice) White of Baylis, three sisters, Shirley Jean (Mike) Kelly, Huntsville, IL, Diana (Jerry) Alexander, Quincy, IL and Arlis (Randy) DeJaynes, Forsythe, IL., sisters-in-law Bonnie White of Carthage and Pat White of Quincy. Surviving brother-in-laws include: Bob Kendrick, Danny (Barb) Kendrick, John(Debbie) Kendrick, and Larry (Lisa Kendrick) and one sister-in-law Juanita (David)Hammock from the Vermont-Ipava area. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie, her parents, Wayne and Clara White, and three brothers: Claire, David and Leon White.

The family would like to recognize and give a very special thank you to her tireless caregivers: Jill and Brooke Cobb of Quincy, Michaelynn Delcour, Amanda Watkins, Daniele Smith, Molly Rost, and Jane Mitchell. Additional gratitude is extended to the staff and administration of Curtis Creek Retirement Home.
