Steven Wayne Snowden Obituary
Steven Wayne "Tater" Snowden, 62, of rural Vermont passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.
He was born January 3, 1962, in Macomb, the son of Donald Ross and Shirley Rae "Flip" (Simeral) Snowden. He was a 1980 graduate of Industry High School. He graduated magna cum laude in 2011 from Spoon River College, earning an Associates Degree in Business Agriculture. In 2006 he became employed with the Illinois Detention and Treatment Facility in Rushville as a security guard, retiring in November of 2021. During his entire adult life, his real passion was farming with his parents.
He married Patricia L. Jackson in St. Louis on August 3, 2013, and she survives. He is also survived by his father, Donald of rural Macomb; his sisters, Jan (Jack) Perone of Springfield and Julie (Bruce) Cordell of rural Beardstown; his brothers, David (Rhonda) Snowden of Warsaw and Mark (Judy) Snowden of Des Moines, IA; sisters-in-law, Julie (Jim) Somers of The Villages, FL, and Peggy (Steve) Tyler of Clarksville, MD; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and his beloved pets, Skye, Ziggy and Maverick. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley "Flip" Snowden; his sister-in-law, Angela Dean Snowden, and his in-laws, Robert and Mary Jane Jackson.
Steve was given the nickname "Tater" at a young age, and although all of his siblings had nicknames as well, his became more widely known to others. His happy place was outside, whether he was mowing his yard at the old Snowden homestead, where he and Patti lived, puttering around in his shed, or excelling at running the combine during harvest season. His older brothers and father had to admit he was the best operator of farm machinery. He was one of a kind. He was a loving son, husband, brother, uncle, Coffee Club cousin, and a good friend to many. He was a kind and pure soul. Heaven will not be unfamiliar to him.
Visitation for Steve will be at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb, IL on Friday, July 12, from 5-7 PM. Funeral services will be at West Prairie Presbyterian Church in rural Adair, IL at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 13, with Pastor Jeremy Westlake officiating. Burial will follow at Pennington Point Cemetery at 11:30 AM, with a luncheon immediately following at the church. Memorials may be made to West Prairie Presbyterian Church or OSF Richard L.
