Virginia Doxstader Obituary

Virginia "Ginny" Louise Doxstader, 97, of Macomb, IL passed peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Bickford Senior Living in Macomb, IL.

The original ”pretty in pink,” Ginny was born in Table Grove, IL on November 13, 1928 to Frank and Irene (née Kirkpatrick) Barkley. She attended Ipava High School and went on to graduate from Western Illinois University (WIU) before beginning her elementary teaching career in Good Hope, IL. Throughout her career, she went on to teach in Havana, V.I.T., and Pekin. While teaching full time she also earned a Master’s Degree in Reading and a Sixth-Year in Curriculum from WIU.

Ginny married Harland Theodore "Ted" Doxstader on June 28, 1980. After she and Ted retired in the mid-80’s, they went on to run a private tutoring service from their home in Macomb for 24 years helping over 600 local students during that time.

In 2017 Ginny moved to Normal, IL to live with her daughter where she continued to utilize her teaching skills volunteering to lead monthly enrichment activities with preschoolers at the Child Development Lab at Heartland Community College

Ginny loved spending her days in the sunroom with her best buddy Millie (the dog) answering every Wheel of Fortune question before the contestants, reading, flying through word searches and 'spot the difference' books, all the while staying abreast of the news. She was also able to attend many concerts and events at the local universities and community venues.

In December 2023 Ginny moved into Bickford Senior Living in Macomb where she enjoyed the activities and regular visits from local friends.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her sister, and her beloved husband, Ted. She is survived by her three children, Amy Farwell of Greystones, Ireland, Tim Farwell of Macomb, IL, and Ted (Vera) Farwell of Rose Hill, KS as well as three granddaughters, Louise (Oscar) Hamra-Muller of Greystones, Ireland, Penny (Josiah) Mote of Iberia, MO, and Nicole (Andy) Fanning of Jefferson City, MO as well as many great-grandchildren.

Ginny remained positive, smiling, and dressed in pink until the very end - she will be missed.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Ginny was clear she did not want a visitation or formal funeral, but to have her ashes scattered along with those of her beloved husband, Ted, at a private family gathering.

You can honor her lifelong dedication and passion for teaching by donating to the children’s area of the Macomb Public Library www.macomblibraryfriends.org/donate/
